AimAtFile Fast File Search – Find Files by Their Content
I like to think of myself like a well organized type of person. I put my music in one folder, my movies in another, and all my documents in another folder. In the documents folder, I create more subfolders to sot things in categories and things like that. But no matter how well organized I am, there are times when I need something and I just can’t find it.
No matter how well organized you are as well, the simple truth of the matter is that it is easy to forget in which document you had info on a specific item. For example in which .doc file you had a piece of text about, I don’t know, let’s say dietary supplements.
If you can’t find something, you can turn to software for help. To be more precise, you can turn to AimAtFile Fast File Search. This application (download weighs in at some 600KB, so it should complete in no time at all) helps you find files by their content. This AimingTech Company-developed piece of software can perform content searchers on Microsoft Office documents, HTML files, PDF files, Plain Text files, and more.
The content search functionality provided by AimAtFile Fast File Search is based based on Microsoft Indexing Service which is included in Windows XP. This is the bad news - AimAtFile Fast File Search works just fine on Windows XP; unfortunately it does not provide support for Vista and Windows 7. I’ll be the first to admit that XP is a properly good operating system; I’ll also be the first to admit that it is a bit old and that Windows 7 is the way of the future.
If you are on Windows XP, you can use this application to perform content searches. The application will look for files stored on your drives or on a network. It displays everything it finds – and thanks to a preview feature, you can see the contents of the documents it finds without actually having to open said documents.
